4/4/13 Hats off to spring!

This Sunday April 7, for the ninth year in a row, the Stroll with a Hat (Paseo con Sombrero) will take place in the heart of Barcelona. It is a popular event in which the community walks through the city with one requirement only: everyone must wear a hat. It is a curious and unforgettable event you cannot miss out on.

The event, which has been celebrated in Barcelona since 2005, is a delightful way to welcome the spring. The organizers of this walk are Barcelonan milliners (hat designers) Nina Pawlowsky and Cristina de Prada whose inspiration was the “Easter Parade”, a popular event on Easter Sunday in New York where the citizens take a walk around 5th Avenue with a hat. From the first edition of the gathering there were no more than ninety participants but the event quickly gained popularity and this year the organizers estimate reaching a new record of over 600 participants, according to official sources.

The Stroll is an open event for everyone interested man or woman, young or old. It is an excuse to get some fresh air and walk with a favorite hat or to buy a fancy new one. A hat is an accessory that transmits the personality and style of its’ owner and all distinct types of hats are see during the Stroll: baseball caps, beanies, berets, turbans, top hats, headdresses, cow boy hats…

The Stroll with a Hat is more than just an event; it is a walk with personality and diversity where everyone chooses the most colorful and zany hats unlike the “Easter Parade” where the theme is Easter. The Stroll, furthermore, gives businesses in the Catalan capital an opportunity to display their new season hat models in the thousands of window displays throughout the city.

The ninth edition of The Stroll with a Hat begins at 12h on Rambla Catalunya and Diagonal and finishes on Grand Vía. After the walk, our Bar Roca in Hotel Omm, on Paseo de Gracia with Roselló is a great option to rest and eat something in your Sunday best.
