Switching on the 2014 Christmas lightning in Barcelona

Barcelona, Paseo de Gracia

On one hand, this year, for the first time, Barcelona City Council has launched a Christmas lights contest, called ‘Encén el Nadal’ (Switch the Christmas on), to share the responsibility of having unique Christmas lights with citizens, following the innovative, creative and design city values. The two winning projects, ‘Christmas stars’ and ‘Light-Years’, are the ones who will illuminate Arago and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes streets this Christmas.

On the other hand, Passeig de Gràcia street lights, inspired by the modernist Antoni Gaudí catenary arches, will be one of the most prominent streets next Christmas. The lights installed there, in three different sizes, represent the red and white arches and will provide an elegant Christmas decoration.

Gabriele Schiavon, head of the company that has designed the lights in Passeig de Gràcia, explained that his aim was to unite tradition with culture. The artistic installation will encourage both locals and visitors to walk this street, one of the most glamourous ones of Barcelona.

The modernist inspired lights will be installed throughout the avenue, from Plaça Catalunya to Jardinets de Gràcia. If you stay at our hotel in Passeig de Gràcia, you can enjoy the lights from the Hotel Omm rooms and terraces. The elegant Christmas lights will be switched on from November 21.
