1.000 m2 of sexuality
Until 19th of March in the Exhibition Hall of the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) the exhibition 1,000 m2 of sexuality can be visited, an exhibition that has been in charge of investigating and representing how spaces for sex have been projected in our society since the S. XVIII.
A different exhibition
Curated by Adélaïde de Caters and Rosa Ferré, 1,000 m2 of sexuality is composed of 250 artistic pieces including audiovisuals, books, artistic installations and other elements that show the power exercised by spaces as engine of desire, and how architecture has contributed in a way or other in behaviors and creation of gender stereotypes.
In the exhibition you can find proposals by artists such as Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, Charles Fourier, Sade, Guy Debord, Carlo Mollino, Adolf Loof, Nicolas Schöffer, Wilhelm Reich, radical architecture of the 60s and 70s, Playboy architecture and others works of different architects and contemporary artists. It is emphasized in how architecture has been dominated until recently by men, which has meant that the spaces proposed for pleasure are imagined from the desire and sexual fantasy of men.
Architecture and sexuality
The exhibition is developed in three themes: sexual utopias, libertine refuges and sexographies. The architecture for these artists forms an important and substantial part of almost all our fantasies, which is why in this exhibition we are invited to consider how the sexualities are constructed according to certain cultural codes subject to corporeal and discursive norms, and what is the Space of desire and pleasure in our society.
We invite you to enjoy this innovative exhibition that is very close to our hotel in Paseo de Gracia. You can take the opportunity to take a walk to Plaza Catalunya and within the popular El Raval neighborhood you can find the CCCB which is also very close to the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.
