Christmas arrives in Barcelona and with it … its lights!

We begging to feel the Christmas spirit in the streets of Barcelona and … what better way to welcome the festivities to our city than with the Christmas lights?

The ceremony of the Christmas Lighting will take place on Rambla de Santa Mònica, this Thursday, November 23 at 7pm. However, it will have more sentimental value than ever, tinged by the shadow of what was one of the most terrifying and terrible dates in our recent history. The location of the ceremony is not accidental in this regard. Because this year the Christmas lights become a tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack of August 17 and in an emotional recognition to the neighbors and merchants of La Rambla, for their exemplary behavior, their courage, firmness and solidarity.

Barcelona, an example of generosity to the world

“We will never forget 17-A” said the Councilor for Commerce of Barcelona, Montserrat Ballarín, responsible for making the announcement about this year’s lighting. For this reason, the city wanted to honor the victims, their families and all the innkeepers, neighbors and merchants of La Rambla who lent their help that day.

Ballarín announced the news accompanied by the Association Amics de La Rambla. Fermí Villar, president of this aforementioned association, explained that this year Picasso’s dove joins the traditional birds of Barcelona designed by Claret Serrahima as a symbol of peace and reconciliation that locals want for their city and for the whole world.
