In these digital times, it seems like to everyone’s surprise, printed material is gaining strength again, and that is precisely what the exhibition “Phenomenon Fotolibro” is demonstrating. An exhibition that opened on 17 March and will be available until 27 August in the exhibition hall of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
The photobook in the culture
Fenómeno Fotolibro is presented simultaneously in the CCCB and the Fundación Foto Colectania, with nine international curators in charge, experts in the subject of photography, they are: Horacio Fernández, Erik Kessels, Martin Parr, Gerry Badger, Ryuichi Kaneko, Frederic Lezmi, Irene de Mendoza, Markus Schaden and Moritz Neümuller, who is the executive commissioner of the project and who in his own words says that “There is a clear tendency to return to the printed object.”
Perhaps this new boom for the printed object is due to the value it conveys to us, a digital photograph is not the same as a printed photographic piece that can adorn or complement a space in our belongings, in our home, in some corner of our personal space. Currently many photo books are printed, sold, exchanged and collected, which is why publishers have shown such interest in the production of them.
Talents of photography
More than 500 photos exhibited in Fenómeno Fotolibro. Among them are the works of Ródchenko, William Klein, Robert Frank, Martin Parr, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Gabriel Cualladó and Henri Cartier-Bresson; In addition to a section dedicated to the publicity and publicity books.
Organized in seven expository chapters and a reading space in the Beta Station of the CCCB. The purpose of the exhibition is none other than to claim the value of the book in the contemporary visual culture.
