Foto Colectania presents the exhibition Identity structures. The Walther Collection
The strength of the portrait to explore the notion of gender or identity.
200 images of great masters such as August Sander, Richard Avedon or Seydou Keïta along with others of contemporary photographers such as Samuel Fosso, Zhang Huan or Zanele Muholi.
In the words of Pepe Font de Mora, director of the Foto Colectania Foundation: “This exhibition is a reflection on the portrait, with many edges: we talk about how photographers from different cultures have raised the issue of identity through photography ” He adds: “We will show groups of photographs of each of the authors, with a staging that enhances their work.”
This new exhibition highlights the different ways in which subjectivity and social identity are built and the value they have within the history of the environment. In addition, it illustrates The Walther Collection’s effort to explore the history of photography beyond conventional, temporal, cultural and geographic boundaries.
Fundacion Foto Colectania was created in Barcelona in 2002 with the aim of disseminating photography and introducing it within the social, artistic and educational field in our country. Located at number 14 Paseo Picasso, in the neighborhood of Born, in what had formerly been the headquarters of a century-old company dedicated to the manufacture of equestrian items. A beautiful space whose renovation project is signed by architect Jaume Pons and interior designer Pilar Libano.
The exhibition can be viewed from 15.11.2018 until 02.17.2019
