Land of dreams
Cristina García, and her passion for photojournalism
Born in Puertollano, Ciudad Real is a talented Spanish photographer licensed in Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid. Throughout her career, she has presented several photographic exhibitions and has published seven books. She began her teaching career in 1974 giving classes in drawing, an activity that she managed to combine with her different photographic activities. Among her achievements stands out to be the first Spanish to be part of the international photojournalistic agency Magnum.
Commitment to those in need
“La Caixa” Obra Social has worked on several projects dedicated to the eradication of poverty in poor countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia; 22 of these projects have been carried out in collaboration with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, which has benefited around 370,000 people. So they wanted to show through the photographic work of Cristina García the face of the women of the community of Anantapur in India. A way of giving them a voice and show the reality of these small communities that are part of the humanitarian projects in which “La Caixa” Obra Social works to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable.
You can visit the “Tierra de sueños” (Land of dreams) exhibition every day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the CaixaForum Social and Cultural Center space, until January 8, 2017.
