Mercat Sant Antoni, a new mandatory place to visit in Barcelona

Last May the Sant Antoni market was inaugurated after a decade of waiting for its restoration and renovation process. The great excitement of returning to this beautiful market located in the heart of the Sant Antoni neighbourhood, can be breathed throughout Barcelona.

Located 10 minutes from Las Ramblas, it has just become one of those places that you cannot miss if you are in Barcelona and that it is part of the history of the city.

A Barcelona market with many stories

Initially, the market was designed by the engineer Ildefonso Cerdà for the Eixample district, but it was eventually moved to its current location due to the need to provide the area with commercial services.

The architectural work, designed by Antoni Rivera i Trias, is one of the most emblematic of the city and is considered, together with the Mercado del Born, an example of urban iron architecture of the second half of the nineteenth century, in full modernist effervescence.

Its iron structure rises on a plant in the shape of a Greek cross, which makes the whole space of the block take full advantage. But if you take a walk around, what will leave you more open-mouthed are its colours and windows, an impressive and unique expression of the modernist style of the time.

Much more than a market

After years of restoration, a lot of effort and investment, the market reopens its doors so that both residents and tourists can enjoy it in different ways.

With a total area of 53,388 square meters, it offers a total of 235 establishments, among which are those that offer fresh products, a gym, a supermarket and parking spaces for both cars and motorcycles. Whatever you’re looking for, from food to clothing, take a tour of the market and have fun exploring it!

To get to the Sant Antoni market from our hotel in Barcelona, you can do it by taking a pleasant walk in which you will go through Paseo de Gracia, Plaza Cataluña and Las Ramblas in Barcelona, to later enter the mythical Raval neighbourhood and meet the market .

A perfect and different plan for sightseeing in Barcelona. Don’t you think?
