The owner of our hotel, Rosa Esteva, participated in Hostelco, one of the most important fairs in the hospitality and restaurant industry. This past Wednesday, April 18, Rosa was invited to a 45-minute presentation in which she shared her career experience and on Thursday, the 19th, she participated in a roundtable sdebate about leading women in the industry.

On Wednesday, on her conference at The Hostelco Experience – Live Gastronomy, Rosa explained the origins of Grupo Tragaluz, a leading company in the sector that she founded 30 years ago with her son. “I was lucky to have been unlucky,” she often says.

It all started with Mordisco, the first restaurant of the company, which was born out of financial need and Rosa’s innate intuition. Used to preparing meals for her children and 20 of their friends one day she asked herself: “why not feed 20 people, but charging them for the food?” That question led the way.

She started with nothing, no resources and no high aspirations, just the simple idea of creating a place where a woman could eat alone and feel at ease, a meeting point with a nice atmosphere. However, almost without even realizing it, she turned that little place, Mordisco, into the beginning of a great adventure and marked a before and after in the industry.

On Thursday, Rosa participated along with eight other businesswomen from the sector in an exclusive meeting of Hotel and Tourism Directives, organized by the Hotel Management International Circle. In this round table they assessed the current challenges, the contribution and the recognition of women in the hotel industry. Rosa argued that for her equality is in considering people by their merits, regardless of ther gender. “Who is worth it, is worth it” she concluded without hesitation.

Held together with Alimentaria, Hostelco closed this 2018 edition in Barcelona Thursday with a record: almost 150,000 visitors!

We are very happy to have been a part of this important fair by sharing the story of the owner of our five-star hotel in Paseo de Gracia. And we are especially happy to have become a reference in the vitality hospitality industry of a Barcelona which is always open to creative expression.
