The Madrazo & Catalonia
Considerate a very influent dynasty in the artistic Spanish world, the Madrazo were an aristocratic family whose several members were mostly dedicated to be painters, who used different styles of painting like neoclassicism, romanticism and impressionism. This family was always closely linked to the other bourgeois families in Spain, even members of the royal Spanish family posed before them like Queen Isabel II, also other aristocrats like the Alba’s Duchess, and additionally some important personalities in the Catalonia elite like was the philosopher Jaume Balmes.
From our five stars hotel in Barcelona we want you to know the best artwork of the Madrazo family, which is being display in Catalonia until September 30th at the Fran Daurel Foundation located at Poble Espanyol. The art show has a selected amount of 67 pieces, among them are, “The Duchess” a portrait painted by the head of the family José de Madrazo Agudo, beside others relevant paintings of his sons Luis and Federico Madrazo Kuntz, who were also museum directors at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
A lot of the Madrazo’s painting were family pictures, maybe the most recognize of them because of the sad story behind it’s the portrait of baby Luisito Draza de Madrazo, who died just one week after being born. In the picture, painted by Ricardo de Madrazo, we can see little baby Luisito wearing the clothes he would had used at his Christening Day.
This exhibition is presented by the Fran Daurel Foundation, thanks to the cowork with the AYMC Foundation from Madrid. They have worked hard to offer the public a large selection of the best artwork of this distinguished and talented family.
